Established in 1848, this picturesque village is a resort and retirement area and
is located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country on Ranch Road 12 just 45 miles southwest of Austin and 60 miles northeast of
San Antonio. It's different than the cities in the area because it is an unincorporated village. The Post Office delivers
to about 8,000 households and on certain weekends listed below, the number of people can swell to twice that many as thousands
of shoppers from as far away as Houston and Dallas converge for "Market Days" (the first Saturday March - September
and the first Saturday and Sunday October - December - a huge open air shopping experience with over 475 booths for
art, antiques, plants and practical "stuff" and everything you can't live without! This is the oldest outdoor market
in the Texas Hill Country and the second-largest in the state. Also, on the third Saturday area artists exhibit their
works of art. The weather is typical for the Hill Country with hot summers and mild winters, averaging 300 days of sunshine
and 37 inches of rain a year. Wimberley is a popular tourist stop, well known for its many art and specialty shops.
The area has several attractions to visit while you are enjoying your stay with us. Visitors
to the area are entranced by cool, shady pools beneath towering cypress trees, the cascading Blanco River and sparkling Cypress
Creek, rolling green meadows and majestic hills. In abundance are white-tailed deer and other wildlife, wildflowers, recreational
communities, vacation resorts and youth camps. Popular activities include climbing, hiking, fishing, swimming, boating, golf,
tennis, bird watching, arts and crafts, and camping. Wimberley is the home of many artists and authors.
